Housing

In this section, you will find information about the right to accessible and affordable housing.

Housing

Having a suitable place to live is fundamental for participation in society.

Access to housing implies the option of living in the community on equal terms with other people and being able to participate. Currently, in Spain, more than 1.8 million people with reduced mobility need help to leave their homes, and around 100,000 people who do not have help never do so (COCEMFE, 2019).

Even though there is a Spanish regulation from 2017 that requires all products, environments, goods and services to be accessible, this is not being fulfilled.

Have you heard about the regulatory framework on universal accessibility?

The United Nations Convention states that the accessibility of all housing must be guaranteed (art. 9), as should the right to live independently and to be included in the community (art. 19).

Together we remove barriers and build a better society!
