Legislation on disability issues

International level:

United Nations Convention on the rights of people with disabilities. (It was approved on 13 December 2006 and ratified by the Spanish government in 2008, becoming part of the State legal system).

Spanish level:

  • Royal Legislative Decree 1/2013, of 29 November, which approves the revised text of the General Law on the rights of people with disabilities and their social inclusion. (This defines the areas of equality and non-discrimination; it explains the rights of people with disabilities and establishes the regime of infractions and sanctions).
  • Law 26/2011, of 1 August, on normative adaptation to the international convention on the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Royal Decree 1276/2011, of 16 September, on normative adaptation to the international convention on the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Law 39/2006, of 14 December, on the promotion of personal autonomy and care for people in a situation of dependency.
  • Royal Legislative Decree 5/2000, of 4 August, which approves the revised text of the law on infractions and sanctions in the social order.
